Paper Chains
Loop strips of paper together and glue/tape/staple to make a chain. Incorporate writing practice by writing things according to a theme on each link of the paper chain. Theme ideas: wishes, dreams, gratitude, a food chain sequence. This uses fine motor skills, scissor skills (also crossing the midline), improves hand strength,& mindfulness in addition to writing.
Story Cubes as Creative Writing Prompts
Use Rory's story cubes to make up a story. Don't have cubes? Make your own with modeling clay. (Roll a couple of cubes to get random pictures, then you have to make a story that includes all the elements.)
To make school work more fun,: Kid rolls cube to generate a story, then child must write it/punctuate/illustrate/etc.
